Does the model suit your lighting task?
In this selection, the Philips Hue E27 Filament A60 White Ambiance lamp, 550 lm, 7 W stands for existing E27 lamps in the Hue system, with an adjustable white tone from 2200 to 4500 kelvin, but only Class G and no documented dimming on a wall-switch dimmer. That is a narrower and more honest statement than a blanket “good” or “bad”. A lamp can be technically decent and still disappoint in the wrong place. That is why this analysis starts with the intended use, not with a score.
The decisive figure is the luminous flux of 550 lumens according to the manufacturer at a power consumption of 7 watts. That gives about 78.6 lumens per watt, using the factor of 1.000 for non-directional, mains-operated lamps under Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2019/2015, and therefore Class G. The white tone is adjustable from 2200 to 4500 kelvin. According to the register entry, 550 lumens correspond to roughly a 40-watt incandescent lamp, which is enough for a floor lamp or table lamp, not as the sole lighting for a room.
For this model there are 5 readable product features from the Amazon listing. They are not presented as independently confirmed measured values. We explicitly separate what the source states from our practical assessment. We do not claim any long-term, laboratory or room trials of our own. We reproduce the quoted listing texts unchanged in content, but apply the house style for punctuation: dashes become a colon or comma, ranges are written out with “to”, and special characters and advertising symbols are removed. Numbers, units and statements are left untouched.

Listing claim: Vintage design
What the source states: Vintage design: Fitted in any E27 lamp holder, the Edison-style LED lamp bathes the home in a welcoming, amber light
Why this matters: The lamp holder keeps the later choice open, but requires a suitable combination of shape, maximum power, colour temperature and, where relevant, dimmability. The manufacturer's page lists this lamp as A60, that is a bulb shape with a diameter of 60 millimetres and a height of 115 millimetres. The Edison shape is called ST64 at Hue and is a separate model. A lower white range of 2200 kelvin is documented. An impression such as amber is not a measured quantity, and the colour rendering index is 80 with R9 equal to zero.
Listing claim: Individual shades of white
What the source states: Individual shades of white: Thanks to 50,000 shades of white from cool to warm, the adjustable, dimmable LED light creates the right ambience for every occasion
Why this matters: With this product, dimming is done via app, hub or wireless switch, not via a wall dimmer. A dimmer upstream in the circuit should be bypassed or replaced, otherwise the light flickers or the radio connection drops. An adjustable white range of 2200 to 4500 kelvin is documented. Neither the manufacturer's page nor the EU product register gives a figure of 50,000 shades of white. The lamp does not reach cool white light around 6500 kelvin.
Listing statement: Convenient light control
What the source states: Convenient light control: Compatible with the Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation), Echo Plus and Echo Show (2nd generation), the Hue LED lighting can be controlled with a click or a word
Why this matters: For the assessment, what counts is whether this feature brings a concrete advantage in everyday use. Without a matching lighting task, it remains mainly a data sheet point. According to the manufacturer, voice control runs via the Hue Bridge. Bluetooth alone covers direct control by app. We have not checked from a manufacturer document which Echo devices are specifically supported.
Listing detail: Smart expansion
What the source states: Smart extension: The separately available Hue Bridge control hub can control, automate and operate the E27 lamp together with other lamps or accessories from anywhere in the world
Why it matters: Check how many ways of operating it there really are and whether each of them stays reachable at the planned spot. It is also important whether the device saves the last level chosen and whether an accidental touch changes a setting.
Listing statement: Easy installation
What the source states: Easy installation: The E27 LED lamp with A60 shape is easy to install yourself, works in any home and fits all lamps with an E27 lamp holder
Why this matters: The lamp holder keeps the later choice open, but requires a suitable combination of shape, maximum power, colour temperature and, where relevant, dimmability.
Use in daily life
The lamp needs an E27 lamp holder that takes a diameter of 60 millimetres and a height of 115 millimetres. It is screwed in and set up via the Hue app, by Bluetooth without a Bridge or by Zigbee via the Bridge. The wall switch of the lamp stays on permanently, otherwise the lamp cannot be reached. A standby power of 0.5 watts is drawn even in the switched-off state.
For this model, the purchase decision should therefore hinge on a concrete situation. Before buying, write a sentence such as: “I need light for …” and add place, time of day and activity. If the model does not clearly fulfil this task, an alternative from the same category is probably the better choice.
The lamp is not a colour lamp and is not built for cool white light above 4500 kelvin. It is not a SAD lamp and not task lighting with a documented illuminance. For outdoor use, the manufacturer's page we reviewed gives no IP rating. Light use does not replace medical treatment.
Strengths and limits of the assessment
What speaks for the model
- Product image, ASIN and listing data are clearly linked to one another.
- The design can be assigned to a specific lighting task: for existing E27 lamps in the Hue system, with an adjustable white tone from 2200 to 4500 kelvin, but only Class G and no documented dimming on a wall-switch dimmer.
- The available features allow a targeted check before buying, without inventing a star rating.
What remains open
- No long-term use of our own, no light measurement and no documented load check.
- Listing details can be abbreviated or change with variants and model updates.
- Room effect, glare and ease of use depend on your location and daily routine.
The purchase typically fails because of a wall switch that cuts the lamp off from the mains, or a dimmer that does not cope with the radio electronics. Second case: you order an ST64 look because of the Edison style in the listing and get a bulb with a filament. Third case: because of “all shades of white” you expect cool daylight and the range ends at 4500 kelvin. In addition there is Class G, that is comparatively high power consumption for 550 lumens.
What you should measure and check before buying
Before buying, check whether your lamp takes the length of 115 millimetres and the diameter of 60 millimetres, and whether it is not permanently connected to a wall dimmer. Clarify whether you need the Hue Bridge for voice control and whether you expect cool light above 4500 kelvin. Compare the model identifier 9290024775 or the material number 929002477501 with the box, because Hue offers several filament models with 550 lumens (A60 and ST64, White and White Ambiance).
- Clarify whether you need white light or colour light: These are two different lamp ranges. This lamp only adjusts white tones from 2200 to 4500 kelvin.
- Check the lamp holder and the shape: It is E27 and A60 with a diameter of 60 millimetres and a height of 115 millimetres. The Edison shape ST64 is a different model.
- Clarify the control: According to the manufacturer, Bluetooth is enough for the app. For voice assistants and extended functions you need the Hue Bridge.
- Clarify the dimmer: Check whether a wall dimmer sits in the lamp circuit. According to the material we reviewed, this is not approved, so ask the manufacturer.
- Compare the model identifier: Compare 9290024775 or 929002477501 with the box, because Hue offers several 550-lumen filament models.
If you are unsure how much light your room needs at all, work it out once: the lumens-to-watts chart translates wattage figures into actual brightness, and how many lumens per room are needed depends on area and activity. Further models from this area are in the overview under home lighting, and the lighting calculator translates your room into a concrete target brightness.
Set-up, position and first check
When setting up, what counts is that the lamp holder is permanently live, that dimming does not run via a wall dimmer as long as the manufacturer does not approve it, and that you choose Bluetooth or the Bridge deliberately. Dimmability is controlled in the app and via switches in the Hue system. Whether a trailing-edge dimmer is permitted is not documented.
After set-up, do not judge the light only in daylight. In the evening, switch the rest of the lighting as you normally use it, and check the situation from seated, standing and walking height. Only then do disturbing reflections, hard shadows or an unfavourable switch position become visible.
Keep the instructions and the model designation. That helps with a new app setup, with firmware questions and in a guarantee claim. Light bulb and lamp holder remain interchangeable, so a later change of brightness or colour temperature is possible. This device is intended for indoor use only and is not approved for damp rooms or outdoor use.
Comparison with similar models
The comparison does not name winners. It shows models of the same category so that you can see whether one of them is closer to your lighting task. If two models have the same task in the Assessment column, they do not differ in purpose but in design, dimensions and features. The column then states what is actually different according to the sources.

Our buying decision
The Philips Hue E27 Filament A60 White Ambiance lamp, 550 lm, 7 W makes sense if you are looking for a lamp for existing E27 lamps in the Hue system, with an adjustable white tone from 2200 to 4500 kelvin, but only Class G and no documented dimming on a wall-switch dimmer, have checked the dimensions at the intended location and will actually use the functions named in the listing. The purchase is less convincing if you expect a universal solution for several conflicting lighting tasks.
Keep looking if key data such as dimensions, light output, IP rating or compatibility is not clearly documented for your intended use. The same applies if you only like the look of the design, but the cable, the floor space or the controls would get in your way in daily use.
We deliberately award no stars. A numerical score would suggest a measurement accuracy that does not exist without documented hands-on testing. The statement this page can support is narrower: which details are available, what the model may be suited for, and which questions remain open before you buy?
Frequently asked questions about the lamp
Which energy efficiency class does the light bulb have?
Class G. The EU product register lists 550 lumens at 7 watts, which is about 78.6 lumens per watt at a factor of 1.000 (non-directional, mains-operated), and Class F only starts at 85 lumens per watt.
Do I need the Hue Bridge?
For simple control by app, Bluetooth is enough according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer's page, you need the Bridge for voice assistants and the extended functions, but the page does not say which ones.
Can I run the lamp on a normal wall dimmer?
That is not documented in the material we reviewed. The EPREL record lists it as dimmable with a specific dimmer type, and the manufacturer's page mentions dimming via app and switch. A wall dimmer can also disturb the power supply to the radio electronics, so you should ask the manufacturer first.
Does the lamp also give off cool white daylight?
No, not in the sense of 6500 kelvin. The documented range runs from 2200 to 4500 kelvin, which is from very warm to neutral white. It is only of limited suitability for cool task lighting.
Is it a colour lamp?
No. The EU product register does not list it as a colour-tuneable light source, and it only adjusts white tones. Coloured light is offered by a different Hue model, the White and Color Ambiance range.
How good is the colour rendering?
The colour rendering index is given as 80, and an R9 of zero is recorded for deep red. That is usual for home lighting, but for judging colours under the lamp the values should be read with caution. We have not measured anything, these are manufacturer figures.
Sources and currency
The sources are ranked by their closeness to the product: manufacturer documents come before retailer or comparison data. A shop listing is useful for the variant currently on offer, but it is not an independent check. Missing documents are not replaced with invented experiences.
